After another long 14 hour plane ride, I'm back in the place of my birth, TAIWAN 台灣.
In some respects, Taiwan is a middle ground between Japan and China. People still have a bit of the Japan bowing and politeness due to the Occupation, but to a less of a degree.
Here strangers will talk to each other in shops/convenience shops and people generally are more engaged with the outside world.
However, they are not as "in your face" as they would be in the Mainland.
I think what my dad said once really resonates with me ...
