The install

Today I tried to install a Microsoft Word-plug app on my boss's VERY OLD mac (still running Snow Leopard). He assured me it would not take more than 10 minutes ...

So I insert the CD.

1. "Error this application requires Java. Please download Java and try again."

So I download Java from Apple.

2. "Your Java version 1.6 is too low. This application requires Oracle Java 1.8 or higher."

So I download Java 1.8 from Oracle.

3. "This version of Java is incompatible with your version of OSX (he's running 10.6). Please upgrade your version of OSX and try again.

So I check with my boss... he says he needs the app, so I upgrade OSX... 5 hours later, it was done. I could then install Java 1.8. I then re-ran the plug-in installer

5. "Your version of OSX needs to be upgraded to 10.11.6. Please run system update and try again."

So now I patch El Capitan... another hour goes by... its 8PM now...

6. This plug-in requires Microsoft Word. Please install Word and try again."

WTF? No Word??? Oh crap he's got MS Word 2004... which, being a PPC build is not compatible with OSX 10.10.. so now I had to install Office 2011. Another hour goes by...

At this point the Plug-in installer actually ran... the install progress bar, after 8 hours, actually shows up. It gets to about 15% ... and then I get the PERFECT ending to the evening...

7. "ERROR - This CD contains errors and could not be read. Please check with the manufacturer and obtain a new copy"
