The Dick Van Dyke Show Theme ... Lyrics!!

Over the holidays, I ended up bringe watching all five seaons of the original Dick Van Dyke Show.

All of Season One is available on youtube here:

The 1960s show was the brainchild of the late Carl Reiner, and was ground-breaking in that it was the one of the first to depict both work AND home life.

You never knew what the HELL Ward Clever from Leave it Beaver did at the office, but you sure as hell knew what Dick Van Dyke's character, Rob Petrie did.

Rob's wife Laura, who was played by the late Mary Tyler Moore, was effectively the first "HOT WIFE" on TV. Where as most other wives on TV shows at the time all dressed conservative, Laura Petrie had no problem wearing tight capri pants that showed off her body or stylist "society girl" outfits of the 1960s.

It was also one of the first shows that fairly accurately portrayed a married couple. While they genuinely loved each other, then also yelled, played mind games, were jealous, kissed, and behind the scenes (despite sleeping in separate beds required by the TV censors at the time) as Dick Van Dyke pointed out .. "you knew this couple had SEX!"

The openng theme is iconic, and pretty much everyone in the US has probably heard of it.

However, what many people don't know is that there were actually lyrics to that song, which were composed by the late Morey Amsterdam, who played Buddy Sorrell on the show.
