When I heard that Spirit Airlines had closed down earlier this year, I like many others, was a bit saddened.
Not because I flew that airline often; but because it was the airline we endlessly trashed.
The discount airline was infamous for it's Draconan treatment of passengers like cattle; making them wait for hours if there was a mechanical issue, and charging them for non-sense items such as carry-on luggage.
There are entire forums online for people that simply wanted to vent their frustrations about this airline.
Even when Saturday Night Live parodied the Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 incident; where the cabin door blew open ... they still ended the faux commercial with
"Alaskan Airlines ... still better than Spirit!"
In many regards it was the RYANAIR of the US ... another airline that people just LOVE TO HATE.
After it folded on May 2, 2026, the Airline site (https://spirit.com) seemed to redirect to a re-structuring site .. explaining to visitors that it's winding down operations.
However, if you go to (https://www.spirit.com/en/flights) you'll find the original site still up.
The site's not usable as no destinations can be loaded, most likely because the API backend calls are switched off ... but for those you feeling nostalgic ... there it is!
