Varg Veum Movie Night

One of my favorite series in Norway is "Varg Veum" by Gunnar Staalesen. It depicts a US 1940s style "hard-boiled" detective (Varg) but transports the protagonist and the setting from the urban jungles of LA/New York to the shores of Western Norway.

It explores similar themes such as isolation, prejudice, revenge and all that other stuff against the beautiful backdrop of Bergen.

It's an extremely well done series. If you like stuff like "The Maltese Falcon" or "The Big Sleep", then you should like these films as well.

It stars Trond Espen Seim who is better known in the US for starring in 2011's Horror film "The Thing."

The later films also star Lene Nystrøm, the singer from the group Aqua.

It looks like film series as of 2024 is available on Amazon TV.
